Originally released in 1973, The Second Coming was Rudolph Johnson’s second album for the Black Jazz label.
The session features keyboardist Kirk Lightsey and opens with “The Traveler,” followed by “Time and Space” and “The Highest Pleasure.”
For fans of: John Coltrane, Pharoah Sanders, Joe Henderson.
Johnson’s tenor playing stays rooted in post-bop and spiritual-jazz intensity, with a small-group sound that favors open improvisation over the era’s fusion trends.
