Lucinda Williams and Lucy Dacus join a 13-artist tribute to Blaze Foley.
The songs draw on Foley's early Georgia "tree house" recordings.
Artwork by Foley appears across the gatefold and track sleeves; Joe Nick Patoski wrote the notes.
For fans of: Blaze Foley, Townes Van Zandt, Lucinda Williams.
Americana royalty and Blaze Foley's Austin running buddy, Lucinda Williams anchor an assemblage of thirteen contemporary artists covering classic early Blaze recordings. Lucy Dacus, Uncle Lucius, Phosphorescent, John R. Miller, and Angela Autumn, along with seven other contemporary songwriters contribute tracks reflecting early recordings from Blaze's 'tree house' days in Georgia. Those recordings were originally released by Lost Art Records as 'Sittin' by the Road' in 2010 from demos made by Blaze in the mid-1970s.
Other artists contributing tracks to the project are Willie Watson, Cactus Lee, Dylan Earl, Riley Downing, Joshua Ray Walker, Twain, and John Moreland.
At the time of Blaze's tragic murder in 1989 he was little known outside of Austin's renegade musician circles. He is now revered among the pantheon of Texas' great songwriters. Townes Van Zandt and Lucinda Willliams both penned moving tributes to Blaze. His songs have been covered by John Prine, Merle Haggard, Lyle Lovett, Billy Strings, and Willie Nelson. This project will expand Blaze's reach to a new audience.
Blaze was also a visual artist. Package design incorporates elements of Blaze's art on the gatefold panels. Sleeve is printed on both sides and highlights each of the 13 tracks with one of Blaze's original images.
Liner notes by famed Texas music writer Joe Nick Patoski.
